From depreciated hardware to learning experience: VanRoey supports ICT education

At VanRoey, we strongly believe in sharing knowledge and resources. That is why we regularly make ICT hardware available to schools, giving technology a second life in education. This allows students in IT courses to work with real devices and gain valuable practical experience.

Cooperation with GO! Geel and EduKempen

For schools, this can be a valuable opportunity. Recently, we received a question from Raf Sauvillers, ICT teacher at GO! Geel and EduKempen, who was looking for work materials for his students for the ‘Digital User Support Officer’ courses’ and ‘First aid: tinkering to the computer’.

By providing ICT hardware to schools, students are given the opportunity to disassemble computers, replace hardware, test systems and configure complete installations.

For students, these are not old devices, but learning platforms

Consider, for example:

  • laptops (faulty or working)
  • laptop chargers
  • desktops and components such as RAM, HDD, SSD or M.2
  • network equipment such as switches and access points

For students, these are not old devices, but learning platforms. They learn to use them to disassemble hardware, replace components, benchmark systems and configure entire installations. These are skills that are indispensable in the IT sector today.

Giving technology a second life

With this initiative, we not only want to support education, but also contribute to a more sustainable use of technology. Hardware that is no longer necessary for a company can play an important role in a school environment for years to come.

This gives technology a second life, while students gain valuable hands-on experience.

Building tomorrow's IT talents together

As an IT company, we see it as our responsibility to contribute to the ecosystem around education and talent development. Initiatives like this show how collaboration between companies and schools can create real added value.

We thank Raf Sauvillers and his pupils for their enthusiasm and look forward to continuing to work together on tomorrow's IT talents in the future.

This initiative is part of our broader efforts around sustainability and social responsibility. Read more about our ESG policy here.
