FortiClient – update required

Our experts keep you up-to-date on critical cyber threats (CVEs)

We would like to inform you of a necessary update regarding FortiClient and FortiClient EMS that may impact environments where these solutions are currently being used.

FortiClient – update required

What is going on?

FortiClient (Windows, macOS, Linux) and FortiClient EMS do not currently recognise the newly issued DigiCert CA from 16th April 2026 which is used by the FortiGuard Anycast servers. This may cause communication to certain FortiGuard services to fail.

Certificate expiry is causing connection problems between the client and FortiGuard. Security and update functionalities may be affected from 16 April 2026 to be disturbed.

Update 2 April 2026: This date has been pushed back to 10 October 2026, making the urgency less than initially thought.

Take action

Fortinet has released fixes in the following versions:

  • FortiClient 7.2.14
  • FortiClient EMS 7.2.14
  • FortiClient 7.4.6*
  • FortiClient EMS 7.4.6
  • Customised version of FortiClient Free VPN 7.4.3

From FortiClient 7.4.6, the look and feel have been slightly changed. Settings are automatically carried over; apart from the new layout, there is no impact for end-users.

We strongly recommend carrying out the upgrade to one of these versions by 10 October at the latest to continue guaranteeing connectivity with FortiGuard services and to prevent potential disruptions.
