Lavetan, market leader in laboratory testing for the food industry and part of the GBA Group, decided to thoroughly revamp its IT infrastructure. This was necessary to cope with the growing amount of data and more stringent security requirements in the sector. Together with VanRoey, Lavetan implemented a state-of-the-art solution that not only fulfils its current needs, but also enables future growth.
Insufficient capacity for growth
As a lab that performs a large number of analyses daily, Lavetan collects huge amounts of data. To proactively respond to this increasing need for data and computing power, and the importance of cybersecurity - also within the IT team at Lavetan - a modernisation of the data centre was imminent. For this, VanRoey's expertise was called upon.
Nick Van de Ven, IT manager at Lavetan: "To ensure business continuity, we always choose to proactively renew our IT infrastructure every 5 years. Renewing our data centre with Van Roey gives us peace of mind and breathing space in terms of stability, performance and security."
Focus on reliability & scalability
In a sector where precision and reliability are crucial, a stable IT infrastructure is invaluable. Together with VanRoey, Lavetan chose to implement a HPE Alletra 6010 for storage, combined with the latest HPE Proliant DL380 Gen 11 servers for production and backup.
Steve Willemse, Team lead Infrastructure at VanRoey comments on this choice: "This combination has significantly improved both the storage capacity and processing power in Lavetan's data centre, enabling them to efficiently support both current and future needs."
Renewal of core switches & firewalls
The speed of the core network was also significantly scaled up to meet the increasing demand for data and processing power. In line with this expansion, the core switches were renewed and the implementation of a FortiGate 200F firewall in cluster arrangement.
This cluster arrangement provides optimal redundancy and increased security, ensuring network connectivity continuity even in the event of outages. These upgrades strengthen the overall infrastructure and provide a solid foundation for future growth and digital innovations.
For the core switches, they chose two Ruckus ICX 7150 switches. These switches are also redundant. The 10-gigabit capacity allows the entire core stack of switches and firewalls to route efficiently, significantly improving network performance.
Implementation EDR
In addition, the infrastructure was equipped with SentinelOne, a powerful EDR solution which detects and automatically neutralises advanced cyber threats thanks to AI technology. The system can independently identify malware, ransomware and other advanced attacks - without human intervention - and ensures that threats are addressed immediately before they do any damage.
Based in Turnhout, Lavetan acts as a leading laboratory performing microbiological and chemical analyses specifically for the food industry. From their headquarters, they support customers in Belgium and abroad, focusing on food safety and quality through modern technologies and expertise.
