New in Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain: here’s what’s changing

For years, financial and logistics systems have mainly been about recording data: transactions, orders, stock levels. With Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, that is changing rapidly. Microsoft is building AI agents directly into your processes: they not only provide advice, but also carry out tasks. People remain in the driving seat.

We’ll outline exactly what the solution delivers, what’s changing this autumn, and what that means for your finance and operations teams.

Key insights

What Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain actually offers

Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management comprises two applications: Dynamics 365 Finance and Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management. You may remember the platform as Finance and Operations, or F&O for short. It is designed for organisations with multiple entities, in-house production or international logistics.

  • Multiple companies in a single environment: Intercompany entries are processed automatically, and you can consolidate by group without having to use Excel.
  • Working internationally: multiple currencies, languages and local tax regulations, including e-invoicing, all on a single platform.
  • Production and warehouse: production planning, quality control and advanced warehouse management using scanners and smart picking.
  • Forward-looking planning: Demand forecasting and purchase tracking highlight where the problems lie, before things go wrong.

1. No more release waves, but a rolling roadmap

For many years, Microsoft released new features in two fixed release waves each year. Since the end of August 2026, this has come to an end: from now on, new features will be released on an ongoing basis via a single public roadmap. The familiar Release Planner will be discontinued in mid-November.

What does that mean for you? New features, particularly in the field of AI, are becoming available more quickly. You should therefore check the roadmap regularly so that you know when a preview feature is ready for use in production.

2. Your data accessible via Microsoft 365

One of the most important announcements lies under the bonnet. Microsoft has made two links generally available:

  • a plugin that connects Dynamics 365 to Copilot Cowork;
  • a MCP server for Dynamics 365, which also enables other AI agents to work safely with your data.

This enables AI agents from Microsoft 365 to retrieve data from Dynamics 365 and perform actions on it. All within the security and business logic that you have already set up.

On top of that, there are business skills: reusable instructions that you provide to your agents for a specific process. Microsoft provides ready-to-use skills for processes such as procure-to-pay.

What does that mean for you? Your staff will no longer always have to search within Dynamics 365 itself. They will soon be able to answer queries about an outstanding order or an incorrect invoice directly from Outlook, Teams or Excel, using a link to the relevant record.

3. Finance: faster completion, less manual work

For finance teams, the focus of the transformation is on eliminating repetitive work:

  • Account Reconciliation Agent (preview): It identifies discrepancies between the general ledger and subsidiary ledgers, such as stock, and explains where they come from. You’ll soon be able to resolve exceptions in bulk as well.
  • Finance Agent in Excel, Outlook and Teams: gains additional skills in account reconciliation and debt collection, within the tools that the finance team uses on a daily basis.
  • Updated financial journals: Designed for high-volume processing and AI. You can view intercompany, allocation and accrual entries before you post them. The preview is available in version 10.0.50.
  • AI for payment advice: Automatically import customer payments, link them to outstanding invoices and process them. Scheduled for 2027.

4. Supply Chain: from reacting to anticipating

In supply chain management, too, the focus is shifting towards looking ahead:

  • Impact analysis for changes to suppliers (preview): How does a supplier amend a purchase order? The system immediately shows which sales orders, production orders and stock levels are affected.
  • Demand forecast with AI explanation: Your planners can see not only the forecast, but also how accurate it is and what factors are driving it.
  • Supplier Portal (preview): Suppliers manage their own onboarding and quote requests, and view their orders and invoices.
  • Procurement agent: Your buyers decide for themselves which order lines require follow-up and how the agent should draft those emails.

5. Monitoring and safety remain key priorities

AI that carries out actions in your accounts or stock management rightly raises questions. Microsoft has therefore adopted a clear principle: The officer suggests, the person decides.

Agents are also assigned their own roles and permissions for each legal entity. For example, an agent may have fewer permissions than the user who assigns them. In addition, you can restrict actions such as bookings or payments when someone works via an agent.

Our tip: First, determine which processes and permissions an agent is permitted to use. Only then should you enable the links.

6. Three things to add to your diary

  • 30 November 2026: Export to Azure Data Lake is being discontinued. Are you still using it for reporting? If so, switch to Synapse Link.
  • November 2026: Version 10.0.47 is reaching the end of its support. Please check your update schedule.
  • Book now: Environment management is moving from Lifecycle Services to the Power Platform admin centre. Microsoft is providing a self-service migration tool for this purpose.

Business Central or Finance & Supply Chain Management?

Both are robust solutions from Microsoft, each suited to a different situation. Dynamics 365 Business Central brings finance, sales, purchasing and stock management together in a single, rapidly deployable solution, and scales easily as your business grows. Finance & Supply Chain Management is designed for organisations with multiple subsidiaries, in-house production or complex international logistics.

Which one is best suited to your organisation depends on your processes, not just on your size. We offer both and provide you with independent advice.
