Microsoft unites security solutions under the name of defender

In recent months, Microsoft brought more clarity to the comprehensive range of solutions. With the modification of the names of some security solutions and by uniting them under the Defender fire, Microsoft continues this momentum.

A clear offer

As of this fall, the Microsoft 365 Defender product line for end users includes the following products:

  • Microsoft 365 Defender
    formerly Microsoft Threat Protection
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
formerly Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365
formerly Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection
  • Microsoft Defender for Identity
    formerly Azure Advanced Threat Protection

With these changes, Microsoft wants to create more clarity in its offer. This was a particular problem for these security solutions. The unification of these security solutions under a more unambiguous name makes it easier to understand Microsoft's full security capabilities.

The latest XDR technology against cross-domain attacks

Microsoft 365 Defender also offers a unified suite of security solutions, which, thanks to XDR technology, watches over different domains: identities, endpoints, cloud apps, email and documents. XDR stands for Extended Detection and Response and is a new approach designed to deliver intelligent, automated and integrated security.
This is necessary because it is no longer sufficient to only secure the separate domains. Cyber-attacks occur on several domains at the same time and spread laterally within organisations. XDR makes it possible to connect different alerts that are seemingly incoherent and thus outsmart attackers.

Developing a security strategy?
Microsoft Defender is just one aspect that is part of a well thought-out security strategy. Unfortunately, there is no 'one-size-fits-all' model. Our experts will be happy to talk to you, and already gave a lot of advice in these webinars!

You 4 renewed products all work with this technology and thus complement each other seamlessly:

  • Microsoft 365 Defender uses AI to intercept attacks in an automated and cross-domain way. With dashboards and reports, it provides a clear insight into which threats are active where.
  • Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is relevant, among other things, because of the growing number of devices that are used to work remotely. Remote working introduces extra security issues. These are well covered with Microsoft Defender for Endpoints, preventive and post-breach. Microsoft Defender for Endpoints continuously investigates your devices for possible breaches.
  • Microsoft Defender for Office 365 protects all your Office 365 applications from advanced threats. Think phishing and email fraud, as well as breaches through corrupt documents and collaboration tools.
  • Microsoft Defender for Identity manages your identity risks. Stealing identities, with which cyber criminals gain access to confidential or valuable data, is a common practice. Proper management and control of identities is therefore crucial for a safe working environment. Microsoft Defender for Identity takes this to the next level by correlating suspicious signals with other alerts and makes secure access easier for your employees.

With the Defender solutions, Microsoft is responding to simplification. But Microsoft wouldn't be Microsoft if there weren't some additional variants. That's why we'd like to give you the complete list also for the license-technical clarity:
